The Facebook page is full of fear and shame and anger and the type of sophomoric attempts at humor that are reflective of a deeply unserious person who has never had to impress anyone outside of his hometown. It is run by the newest member of the Georgia State Election Board.

Unfortunately, we’re in a place where a vocal election denier and full-throated MAGA meme artist being appointed to a governmental body that oversees voting rights and election administration barely makes a blip even in statewide news. I guess I’m here to try to alleviate that problem today by explaining a bit about who Rick Jeffares is based on a recent cruise of his very public Facebook profile.

Jeffares believes in Hunter Biden laptop conspiracies and thinks that voting for Democrats will make this country a “shithole.” He thinks it’s funny to put a Biden-Harris bumper sticker on a photo of Islamic terrorists driving a Toyota pickup truck. He likes a meme that wonders what it would be like to “smuggle all the homeless people into Mexico and have them caravan back in to receive better treatment.” He thinks people like Oprah Winfrey and the Rev. Al Sharpton “make a lot of money” at “racism.” Simply put, Jeffares is a guy who you wouldn’t want to get stuck in a conversation with at a local bar, let alone have power over anything related to elections. And yet, he was recently appointed to Georgia’s State Election Board by Republicans in the statehouse.
