Justin, I wish you were exaggerating. It's astounding how many people support the growing authoritarian government in the US. It's hard to know how many Republican voters really choose this, vs. how many are so poorly informed that they really think voting for Republicans will bring lower prices and reduce crime. But unlike many kind-hearted people, I don't make excuses for the ignorant and uninformed. I actually think doing so is patronizing. People can choose what to read, and they can get accurate news for free, they don't have to pay for something like The New York Times. And they can read The Guardian US edition for free if they wish. Plus, Rachel Maddow et al.... So being ignorant is a choice.

As for all the Democrats who can’t believe it’s actually happening, this is something I often ponder and discuss with friends. Older people who had relatives killed in the Holocaust can see what's going on in the US. And people who have traveled extensively in Europe say that even younger Europeans get it. A friend who emigrated to the US years ago from Paraguay gets it. But I think many people in the US have had it too easy, so they're blind to where this is headed. Thanks Justin for raising the alarm. I'll keep sharing your posts.
